Question: Question: Why do I sneeze?
Answer: Sneezing is a reflex. There is an irritation to a sensory nerve in the nose leading to a spasmodic inspiration of air into the lungs. The glottis (opening to the windpipe) closes leading to a high air pressure in the lung. With opening of the glottis, a blast of air escapes through the nose and mouth to clear the nasal passage. This reflex can be initiated by viruses, irritants, allergens, and exposure to bright sunlight.
Question: What, if any, is the difference between Mt. Cedar and Juniper pollins?
Mt. Cedar is a Juniper the last time I looked.  I await your kind answer.
Best regards, Doc Gray

Answer: There are many types of Juniper shrubs and trees. The pollen of these various Junipers are very similar in appearance. Juniper counts reported in the late October-November time period in San Antonio are from ornamental shrubs in yards that may be within a short distance from the pollen collecting device. These pollen may cause symptoms in some individuals but has little significance compared to Juniperus ashei (Mt. Cedar)pollen in the Mid-December to early-February time period.
